The world may fall into the entopy of nothingness, but at least we have a Doggy Joy meter. What we need more of are happy hobos with gravity powers, a comfy sewer pipe homestead, and a pendant that makes doggies follow you around. Not dourer trecks through ruins with two people who hate everything, or slow marches through snowy mountains with a step-dad who REALLY hates everything. Yet Kat is the happiest character in video games sense Kirby. Kat? Kat just wants to protect people, be happy, and go home and cuddle her girlfriend/sister/time clone at the end of the day (like I said, JS isn't too good at explaining things).Īnd how's this for a paradox for you? Gravity Rush is a world teetering on the edge of nothingness and directed by the creator of Silent Hill and Siren. Aloy wants to reach a mountain or something because chosen one of robot apocalypse or something like that. Every character has a complex background, yes, but that doesn't mean they have go around spelling out their entire background. And while the story of Gravity Rush makes about as much sense as a lobster screaming death metal lyrics from atop a unicycle inside Rosie O'Donnell, it's the characters they make that shine above all else because of simplicity. Japan Studio is the only first party studio at PlayStation that still puts game play above story. I don't usually go online to post about games I've played unless they are extremely special, and Gravity Rush 2 fits the bill. It has its flaws, but by the end of it I had goosebumps, an empty feeling in my heart and a realization that I had just played one of the most unique games ever made. Honestly, everyone should give this game a chance. It might be my favourite soundtrack from last year, eclipsing Persona 5 and NieR. The music ranges from jazzy ballads to epic orchestral pieces, and it all sounds great and definitely deserve a listen. There is an amazing, distinct art-style, fantastic use of colours, and great effects that when put together, create something so surreal, so unlike any game out there. This game might be the most beautiful game I have ever played. The music and visuals should have won awards, or at the very least been nominated. But despite these problems, the game is so worth it. There is a lot of extra content (the trench mine, picture collections etc.) but it feels more like padding than anything. The boss fights, despite how cool they look, don't actually require strategy and always have some kind of cop-out extra health bar. The camera still kind of sucks, making some of the combat scenarios extremely frustrating. The side quests (despite having cute character moments) aren't riveting and can be hard to sit through. There are problems with this game for sure. There still isn't any other game out there that matches the feel Gravity Rush has when it comes to flying. Traversal and combat are both extremely fun and the shifting of gravity/flying is satisfying and mesmerizing. The new gravity styles are a lot of fun to play with. The gameplay is solid too, definitely an improvement from the first game. Brilliant characters, interesting stories for the most part, and really cool set-piece moments, especially in the last act. The three parts are pretty loosely connected, each with unique characters and villains, but that kind of helps cement an episodic feel to it, which is a concept that was definitely expanded on from the first game. It feels like two games rolled into one (in a good way). It's like playing a standalone story, followed by a true sequel to the first game, and capping it off with a batshit crazy finale/prequel. Things slowed down, so almost a year later I finally picked the game back up and holy crap I did not expect the game to go the direction it did. I got it on release but only managed to finish up to the end of the Banga chapter before life got complicated and I had to put it on hold. Let me start by saying I was a huge fan of Gravity Rush 1 on Vita, and even played the remaster last year around this time to prepare for the release of its sequel.
